It was a late winter afternoon. My mother and I drove over to Khala Rosa and Uncle Isaac’s home. Mama frequented the visit almost every weekday afternoon, seeking the comforting presence of her relatives. The cozy flat housed my great aunt and uncle, along with their children, creating a familial atmosphere that felt like a second home to us.

During these visits, the tea table ritual would unfold with precision. The aroma of fresh bread, homemade wines, and pickles would fill the air, setting the stage for an evening of shared stories and laughter. The warmth and love exuded by Khala Rosa’s family enveloped us, making each visit a heartwarming experience.

One such evening, as the conversation meandered to past travels, a humorous revelation emerged. Khala Rosa’s sister-in-law recalled a trip to Beirut, reminiscing about a particular restaurant and what she thought were delectable chicken legs. The comical truth surfaced when she revealed that they had unknowingly indulged in frog legs instead.

The unexpected turn of events led to a moment of shared laughter and surprise, culminating in my great aunt’s hilarious reaction. Despite the misunderstanding, the memory of that winter afternoon remains vivid in my mind, a snapshot of love, warmth, and cherished family bonds amidst the falling snow outside.
