The Autumn Farewell
As I sit by the kitchen window, I look out at the leaves rapidly changing to their autumn hues. The rose bush and the dogwood tree seem to be huddling together, as is to protect each other from the changes that are occurring. How quickly summer has gone by. How quickly indeed. Where has time gone? As I look out and contemplate the passing of time, a gust of wind rushes by. It makes a gentle whooshing sound. A cluster of leaves lose their grip to the branch to which they were attached to and gently fall down onto the lawn.
“No! No! It’s too soon! I want to stay with my family a bit longer. Wait! Wait! I’m not ready!” they plead. The leaves on the tree look at them sadly. They do not want to be parted from the ones they love. They are filled with sadness.
As I look out, I can almost see the leaves changing colours and trembling at the uncertainty of what’s to come. Yes, such is life. And time marches on and on and on…
