In the seventies, it became fashionable to wear wigs in Tehran. Being fashion-conscious, I found a perfect wig with long auburn tresses and felt elegant wearing it after styling. However, my late ex-husband was not pleased when he saw me with it, creating tension over the wig.

Despite my desire to keep the wig, he disapproved and insisted I take it off whenever I asked for money, causing it to become a contentious issue between us. The situation escalated when he embarrassingly removed the wig in public, causing a scene.

A heartwarming turn happened when a friend, the wife of the Indian ambassador, who couldn’t cut her hair due to religious reasons, admired the wig’s beauty and suggested my ex let me wear it. Though he expressed doubt about its origin, she delicately handed it back to me, leading to the wig serving different purposes within the family over time.

The wig eventually found itself retired and forgotten, symbolizing a past dilemma turned into a cherished memory.
