Over the years, we visited Jones Beach countless times, both in summer and off-season. I remember a cold winter day when we drove there, and as we approached the ocean, the angry waves crashed against the shore, the wind howled, and the air smelled of fish. Despite the cold, seeing Peter’s face light up brought warmth to my heart. During quieter times, we would lean on the boardwalk railings, watching the sun’s reflection on the ocean, listening to the peaceful sounds of the waves rushing in.

We once met a friendly highway patrolman there during an offseason visit. He shared how quiet it was during the season, allowing him time to study while on duty. Another special memory was an early summer morning when we drove in the dark to watch the sunrise. Wrapped in a warm blanket with coffee and breakfast sandwiches, we silently witnessed the magic of a new day dawning, feeling awe at the beauty of nature and the peace that surrounded us.

On the last day before he passed away, he wanted to visit Jones Beach, but unable to walk far, we ended up at Oakland Lake Park. Little did I know it would be our last day together. Regret fills my heart as I think back, wishing I had said yes to his request to go to Jones Beach. The pain of his absence lingers, and every day, I remember and miss him deeply, grateful for the love we shared and the memories we made. My beloved Peter, forever in my heart.
