Reflections on Current Events
I am inflamed! As I opened Facebook over my morning cup of tea, I saw a cartoon that one of my old boarding school friends had posted. It was a cartoon of an Israeli soldier with a gun in one hand and a dead dove with an olive branch between its beak in the other. He had shot it. The caption read, “I had to shoot it. It attacked me with an olive branch!”
This is the most insulting, the most uninformed piece of drivel! Israel has been attacked time and time again. At this moment, the Palestinians are sending incessant fire bombs into Israel. They have burned acres and acres of fields. Small children have to run into shelters a few times a day because of the bombings. Does anyone care? Does anyone sympathize? Is it even mentioned on the news? No! What does the world want? If it was your homeland that was being attacked incessantly over a period of seventy years, would you open your arms wide? Would you say, “Come annihilate me and mine?” Or would you defend your country and your home?
I am a Jewish person who had escaped Iraq because of anti-Semitism, escaped Iran because of Khomeini and Islamism. Twice we left our homes and possessions. It was difficult, but we did not feel sorry for ourselves, we did not behave as victims. We buckled down and built our lives one more time! And let me tell you the Jews of the Middle East lived there before Islam. We were there since Biblical times. In Iraq there are only about ten Jews left. That is because of anti-Semitic persecution. There are about 20,000 Jews left in Iran because of the same persecution.
Palestinians were kicked out of Jordan, not Israel. The Arabs that remained in Israel are thriving. They are an integral part of the society. They are in parliament. They are in the Israeli army. The people in Gaza prefer to send their little boys in the forefront of an attack to throw rocks or even worse wrapped up with bombs so that they may explode and kill themselves and the enemy. Which parent would send a child to be killed? What warped mentality is that? And you educated sensible people, why don’t you reason and study the situation before you condemn? As I am writing this, I am shaking. I cannot understand the hatred and the anti-Semitism that is pervading today’s society. I thought we were reasonable people. But I guess there is no reason when you hate so much!
There! I’ve got it off my chest.
