I sit at the kitchen table, vacantly staring out of the window into space. The sun has begun to set, painting the skies with a reddish tint in this glorious Indian summer. It’s my birthday today, and my mind drifts back to the carefree days with Peter. We never exchanged gifts but would celebrate by going out for a special evening together.

Peter’s arrival with a bouquet of my favorite roses marked the start of our date nights. His cheerful greeting of “Hello! I’m home!” would fill the house, and I’d be filled with joy. Dressed up for the occasion, I’d float down the stairs to meet him, knowing by his smile that I looked good. We’d put the roses in a vase and then head out for dinner, carefully chosen by Peter.

Our evenings always included dinner at a chosen restaurant and a play we both wanted to see. He put so much love into planning these dates, making each one special and memorable. I felt blessed to be with such a caring and loving man, like when he surprised me with a play by Neguin Farzad at a tiny theater.

Friday nights meant dinner and a movie, or sometimes we’d visit a German restaurant with live music. One snowy winter evening, we stayed in, enjoying a cozy meal by the fireplace. The dancing firelight and falling snow outside created a magical and intimate atmosphere that made the night unforgettable.

Our time together was never long enough, and though I wish for more, I’m grateful for the love we shared. As night falls, I realize it’s late, ending my reminiscing for now, but my love for Peter will endure. I lock up the house and head upstairs, cherishing the memories of my beautiful Peter.
