As we exit the highway on our way home, we enter this charming little road. It is a magical one with its beautiful curving road. For many years I have driven through this road because of its timeless serenity.

Over the past forty years that I have lived in this neighbourhood, I loved to take the children in my life through it to show them its specialness. The branches of the trees that flank each side of it, charmingly bend to hold hands above us and form an archway.

The leaves change their hues each season. In spring little fresh brilliant green leaves sprout upon the bare branches. As the seasons change, the leaves become a deeper green then they change to the brilliant gold, crimson and browns of autumn. As the weather turns colder, the leaves begin to curl up and wither. Finally, they reluctantly drift off the trees. They land on the road below and create a soft carpet for those who pass by. The aroma of the wet leaves creates a poignant autumnal smell. Then winter arrives. The poor bare branches stretch their branches high above us and seem to hold hands more tightly as if to warm each other. Snow falls. It covers and warms the bare shivering branches.

Season after season we travel beneath their archway. It is quiet, shady and serene as if nothing has disturbed it throughout time immemorial. People come and people go, the march of time has no affect. The road remains unchanged.

The children of years past still like to pass through here. Its hushed stillness has imprinted its pure magic into their being. I heard one of the yesteryears children the other day say, “Lets go through the Magic Road today. It is so calming.”

I imagine these children if yesteryear driving their children through there as they tell them, ‘’Let me show you a beautiful road. It is a magic road.’’

Truly that is the truth. When you travel through this road, it seems nothing has changed. Time stood still from one generation to another…
