The Unfair Displacement
On the main street in our neighborhood, a small supermarket attracts stylish customers with soft music and various offerings. Amidst this setting, a weatherbeaten Mexican flower vendor stands outside with buckets of flowers, enduring all seasons with a tired but pleasant smile on his face. For years, he provided the community with beautiful blooms until a new flower shop opened nearby, driving him out of business.
The self-absorbed owner of the flower shop not only took away the flower vendor’s livelihood but also obstructed the sidewalk with her excessive display, causing inconvenience to pedestrians like Grandma Stella. Feeling frustrated and upset by the situation, Grandma Stella voiced her concerns to the woman, only to be met with an arrogant response focused on making a living at the expense of others.
Disheartened by the unfair displacement of the flower vendor, Grandma Stella now seeks flowers from a kind Mexican couple’s shop located further away. Reflecting on the unjust circumstances, she wonders about the fate of the displaced vendor and hopes that he has found work elsewhere, away from those who prey on the underprivileged.
